Section 04
The End of Flash
The shutdown was announced, dated, and then enforced. Four entries on the notice that gave three and a half years’ warning, the last day of 2020, the block that followed twelve days later, and the parts that no emulator can bring back.

The failure mode was never an error message about Flash. It was an empty rectangle.

4 entries
A dated, announced, deliberate shutdown.
- 04.01The 2017 notice
The end was announced more than three years ahead, which is more warning than most platforms give and still was not enough.
- 04.02The last day
Adobe ended support on the last day of 2020, and tens of thousands of games became unplayable at once.
- 04.03The block
The runtime was not merely unsupported — it was actively blocked from running, which is a different and much harder problem for anyone holding a copy.
- 04.04What broke
Games that called out to a server, loaded assets at runtime or checked a licence broke in ways that emulating the runtime alone cannot fix.
